My Wanderlust Challenge for You

When I was in junior high, I knew I wanted to explore the world. I remember riding on the school bus traveling through Detroit for a class field trip and seeing the abandoned homes, graffiti art, and beyond this was the ambassador bridge. I asked my teacher about the bridge and my curiosity stemmed from the thought of another country being on the other side of that bridge. For me, seeing a city (Detroit) with so much potential, heart, and beauty within the ashes had me wanting to do my part in the world - to make it better before my exit...but that is another story ;)

And so, a wanderlust-er was born...

When I started dating my husband, we started a tradition of visiting a new place every year. Whether its on a holiday or a quick weekend getaway, it must be: a first-time family experience, adventurous, and leave us exhausted at the end of the day. Our first family vacation was this year in Florida and was much needed! I've been so eager to plan the next trip since Florida that I decided to create a 2016 family bucket list. With the help of the book, 2,001 Things to Do Before You Dieby Dane Sherwood, I curated a list for myself and family to accomplish below:

  • Visit a drive-in movie
  • Learn a new word every day
  • Go on an unplanned weekend vacation
  • Travel Route 66 (or similar highway)
  • Visit the beach
  • Spend a week at the lake house
  • Study a language
  • Watch fireworks off the lake
  • Read a new book at least once a month
  • Take a self-defense course
  • Master a dish
  • day, visit Greece :)

Here are a few from the book:

  • Become a _____ of the month member (flower, wine, chocolate)
  • Send dozens of postcards for no particular reason
  • Pay a stranger's subway fare (or taxi or coffee)
  • Turn off the television or power down your phone and go look at the stars
  • Bowl a 300
  • Be a superhero
  • Share the wealth
  • Call a radio station and dedicate a song to ______
  • Research a subject you've always wanted to know about
  • Take pride in your offspring
  • Keep track of love
  • Leave the place in better shape than you found it
  • Live without a phone/internet for ____ days
  • Leave work early and take your family to a dinner and movie

Anyone else swooning over this list?! I hope I woke up your inner wanderlust, too! I've been told, "What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of life for it...." so get out of your comfort zone, get the kids in the car and GO!

Whats on your bucket list??
