How to Lose Unnecessary Weight - Part 2

It's not coincidence that I stumbled across Jen Hatmaker's book as I began writing on overcoming lies of self-unworthiness. I'm convinced more than half of the battles we face begin in our thoughts. Last week, I discussed the emotion battle within ourselves and how to persevere. This week we will trounce the psychological war and move forward towards freedom!
Being a wife is hard. Being a mom is hard. A sister, a friend, a coworker, I can go on naming the many hats we wear and they all have one commonality. They all serve others because that is what we are called to do: to love and serve. So how does this tie into the never-ending "mental" struggle? Here are some personal endeavors and how to prevail in victory:
"I have to do it all." It is physically, emotionally, and mentally impossible to do it all. As women, the world's expectations (and even our own) are to have it together while maintaining a well-balanced life and be "perfect" at it all. This is an invented standard and unachievable.
The fix > Choose one. What do you love? Is there a hobby or skill that brings you to life? Focus on your strengths. God instilled that passion in you to use for His glory. Keep a journal for your thoughts and anything of interest.
"I don't have enough time." Start living for today. There are hundreds of distractions that cross our paths, daily. Self-discipline is crucial in a world of instant gratification.
The fix> It's essential to "unplug" from the distractions and live. For a moment, quiet the world. Invest in yourself: your mind - start a book club, your body - yoga or go walking with a friend and spiritual being - attending a bible study. Schedule your days the night before, if possible so time is evenly distributed.
"What's so special about me. What can I offer?" Are you breathing? You have as much purpose as the next person because, God created us for a unique purpose. There is someone in the world that needs you. Maybe you haven't discovered that "thing" that ignites the internal fire and thats ok. That's why God places people and events in our lives to help navigate.
The fix> Friends, Proverbs 3:6 "In all your ways, submit to Him and He will make your paths straight" is essential advice. You could take online courses, tests, ask friends and family but He is the only one that knows your heart. There is no price for His guidance.
"Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
1.) Seek your strengths. Pray. Keeping a journal will clarify and help organize your thoughts.
2.) Last week, I failed to assign a task about removing emotional weight. Today, focus on removing one thing from your life that is holding you back: person or thing. Reflect and pray on your decision and move forward with confidence.
